GIRLS POWERLIFTING: GHS Hosting Regional Meet Saturday

(Posted Tuesday, February 24)  Gatesville High School will be hosting the Texas High School Womens Powerlifting Association regional meet here this weekend.  The competition begins at 9 a.m. in the GHS New Gym and will include qualifiers in Classes 1A-4A.  More than 225 lifters from this area of the state will be competing, including nine qualifiers representing Gatesville.  All entrants will be seeking a spot in the upcoming state meet (March 21, Corpus Christi) and can do so Saturday by placing first or second in their respective weight classes, reaching an automatic qualifying lift total at regional, or if they are ranked first or second in their respective classes among all state lifters.  Gatesville lifters that have earned regional spots include (weight class, regional rank, state rank if Top 10):  Bailey Rowe (123-lb. class, 2nd), Liz Trejo (132-lb. class, 1st, 3rd), Maria Lozada (165-lb. class, 3rd), Jazmin Medina (165-lb. class, 4th), Pam Griego (165-lb. class, 8th), Ilaysah Broadnax (181-lb. class, 2nd), Cursti Cope (198-lb. class, 1st, 1st), Corinna Lyon (198-lb. class), 2nd, 9th and KayDee Sexton (220-lb. class, 1st, 2nd).
