GIRLS' BASKETBALL: GHS Defeats Whitney 53-30

Gatesville used a strong fourth-period push to defeat Whitney 53-30 Tuesday night. All 11 players scored for GHS, which led by 11 points after three periods and went on a 20-9 spurt in the final stanza. Maddi Sims and Kaitlyn Eudy scored eight points, Jaiden Johnson and Brianna Poe seven, Ashton McCraw six, Corie Tunnel and Katie Veazey five, Gracie Lee three, Shayden Stewart two, Emma Shinn and Rebekah Nolte one. Eudy had nine assists and Poe grabbed six rebounds. Gatesville will compete in the Hamilton tournament Thursday through Saturday. The Hornets face Rio Vista at 12:30 p.m. Thursday and would play Ranger at 5 p.m. the same day with a win over Rio Vista. See the complete bracket at the below link. In sub-varsity action, Gatesville defeated Whitney 40-38. Madison Pearce scored 16 points for GHS, followed by Shayden Stewart with seven, Gracie Lee six, Carlee Duncan five, Ashton McCraw four and Stormy Crum two.
