GIRLS BASKETBALL: No. 1 La Vega Beats GHS 90-36

(Posted Saturday, January 24) Top-ranked La Vega showed why it is considered the best team in Class 4A here Friday night. The No. 1-ranked Lady Pirates downed Gatesville 90-36 to remain undefeated in District 17-4A play. Jaiden Johnson scored eight points to lead GHS, followed by Madison carpenter and Brianna Poe with five, Corie Tunnell, Emma Shinn and Rebekah Nolte four, Kaity Eudy, Katie Veazey and Allaira Jones two. Poe had six rebounds and Tunnell three assists. With the loss, GHS ends the first half of league play at 2-3 heading into Tuesday's road trip to China Spring (JV at 5:00, Varsity at 6:30 PM). La Vega sits atop the 17-4A race at 5-0, while Robinson is 4-1. Connally and Lorena join GHS in a 3-way tie for third place, while China Spring is 0-5.  In sub-varsity action Friday night, the Hornet JV lost 36-22.
