(Posted Saturday, January 24) Gatesville scored two goals late to edge Jarrell 3-2 Friday in the opening round of the Salado tournament. GHS trailed 1-0 at halftime before Ernesto Hernandez tied the game less than a minute into the second half. Jarrell regained the lead minutes later, but GHS accounted for two goals in the game's final 12 minutes. Jose Ruiz kicked true off an Hernandez assist, then Abate Hennessy provided the game winner with 1:56 remaining off a penalty kick. Gatesville faces Liberty Hill at noon today...loser plays in third-place game at 6:00 p.m. and winner advances to tourney title game at 7:30 p.m.
