A native of Gatesville and 1980 graduate of Gatesville High School, Coach Phillips is in his 23rd year with Gatesville ISD.

 

He was the volleyball head coach from 2001-2019, became interim athletic director in 2019, and assumed the athletic director's position full-time in spring 2020.

 

Phillips is married to the former Charlotte Harvey, a 1981 GHS grad and teacher at Gatesville Junior High School.  Their three daughters - Caitlin, Kelsey and Janey - are all educators as well.  They have eight grandchildren.
